GATE, PSUs - notes of Environmental Engg.- part 2

How have you been? Here is the 2nd part of one line notes for the preparation of GATE and PSUs.

  •  The amount of bleaching powder containing 20% available chlorine  needed to chlorinate a rural water supply covering a population of 10,000 at 50 lpcd at the rate of 2 ppm is 5 kg.
  •  In the treatment of 25000 m^3/day of water, the amount of chlorine used is 15 kg/day. The residual chlorine after 10 min contact is 0.20 mg/l. The chlorine demand in mg/l will be 10 kg/day.
  •  Chlorine usage in the treatment of 20,000 cubic meter per day is 18 kg/day. 
  • The residual after 10 min contact is 0.20 mg/l, the dosage in milligrams per litre will be 0.4 and chlorine demand of the water in mg/l will be 0.4 and chlorine demand of the water in mg/lt will be 0.2.
  • The rate of filtration of pressure filters is greater than that of the rapid sand filters. Rate of filtration of slow sand filters is 100 to 200 l/m^2/hr; Rapid sand filters is 3000 to 6000 l/m^2/hr and that of pressure filters is 6000 to 15000 l/m^2/hr
